Discovering one’s authentic voice is key for writers. This voice distinguishes your work from others, bringing a unique perspective shaped by your life experiences, values, and observations. Your distinct voice adds freshness to creativity, even when inspired by fellow artists.
But how do we access this voice? One powerful way is by examining and drawing from our own life experiences. The emotions, challenges, and personal insights we gain along the way are rich sources of inspiration for the narratives we craft, the characters we build, and the choices they make.

Recalling moments in your own life or drawing on the stories of people you’ve encountered can bring authenticity and emotional depth to your work. For example, my background includes Quality Assurance and Improvement and work in organ and tissue recovery and transplant. Although quality assurance might seem unrelated to writing, and transplant work even more niche, these roles gave me insights that now shape my writing in meaningful ways.

In my Anastasium series, I’ve blended my professional background with my interest in spirituality and philosophical exploration to create a narrative that’s part science-fiction thriller, part existential contemplation. The series doesn’t feature characters based on specific people from my life, but my unique experiences in these fields influence how I develop characters and the decisions they make. Through this blend of experience and creativity, I can approach sci-fi with a sense of realism, grounded in my observations of humanity, life, and mortality.
